Rotary Means Business meeting is Thursday

Big Island Rotarians and their guests will meet for Rotary Means Business-Big Island from 5 to 7 p.m Thursday at Humpy’s Showroom. Early arrival statewide district conference attendees are also welcome.

Attendees fellowship, network and share about their clubs and businesses.

Elections Commission meets

The Hawaii State Elections Commission will meet at Monday on Oahu. Videoconference will be available in the basement at the Hilo State Office Building, 75 Aupuni St. in Hilo.

In addition to providing an opportunity to hear from the public, the commission will receive a status update from the Office of Elections and an overview of laws passed in the recent legislative session. The commission will also continue its discussion on the evaluation of the chief election officer.

HPA commencement slated Friday

Commencement ceremonies for the Hawaii Preparatory Academy will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Castle Gymnasium at the school’s upper campus. The ceremony is open to the public.

There will be 113 graduating seniors in the program. Headmaster Lindsay Barnes will preside. Richard Braithwaite, senior class leader and upper school English department chairman will deliver the commencement address.

Discussion on Hawaiian Homes Commission Act planned

A workshop titled, “Hawaiian Homes Commission Act, 1920 and Native American Housing Assistance and Self Determination Act of 1996” will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at West Hawaii Civic Center. The meeting will include discussion of the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act and the Native American Housing Assistance and Self Determination Act.

The workshop is sponsored by County of Hawaii, Villages of Laiopua Association, Laiopua 2020, Hookupaa and Pacific Growth Associates.

Free estate planning workshop offered

Warren Chong, an independent associate with LegalShield, will offer a basic estate planning workshop at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Suite Possibilities, Suite 102 in the Chamber of Commerce Building south of McDonald’s.

Many Americans die each year without leaving a will that clarifies their wishes and keeps peace in the family. There is no fee for the workshop, however, space is limited.

West Hawaii Fishery Council meets

West Hawaii Fishery Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 21 in the Pukaana Church Hall in Kealia. Establishment of a community-based subsistence fishing area will be discussed.
