Firefighters extinguish 10-acre brush fire in Honokaa

Firefighters responded at 1:55 p.m. Saturday to reports of a brush fire at Kalpoa Makai Road in Honokaa.

Fire was burning through fields of tall grass and moving rapidly toward a dwelling as flames were fanned by wind. Firefighters slowed the progress of the fire and had it under control by 4 p.m. Using a helicopter and ground units, the 10-acre fire was extinguished at 5 p.m.

Two firefighters remained on the scene overnight to monitor hot spots and secure the perimeter of the burn area. No injuries were reported.
