Kuana Live (Kuana Torres Kahele) takes the stage Friday and Saturday at Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu.
The Hilo resident has long been renowned as a member of legendary traditional Hawaiian group, “Na Palapala,” but is now recognized widely as a solo artist, and his 2011 CD, “Kaunaloa,” which was nominated for 10 Na Hoku Hanohano awards in 2012. His latest CD, “Music for the Hawaiian Islands: Piilani Maui,” went straight to No. 2 on the Billboard World Music Charts.
Kuana Live will be joined by local hula halau during the performances. On Friday, Na Kumu Hula Nani Lim Yap and Leialoha Amina and Halau Na Lei O Ka Holoku will take the stage with Kahele and on Saturday he will be joined by Kumu Hula Etua Lopez and Halau Pua Ui O Hawaii. Boths shows are slated for 7 p.m.
