Hawaii County firefighters battled a small brush fire on Kaiminani Drive early Saturday morning. Responding units called into the scene at 3:01 a.m. closed one lane of traffic while firefighters worked to contain and extinguish the quarter-acre blaze. The fire broke out in an open area north of Kaiminani, about .25 miles above Queen Kaahumanu Highway. The blaze was out within 10 minutes. The cause is unknown.
