Julita Escarrilla

Julita Bocalbos Escarrilla, 85, of Waimea died May 21, 2015, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born July 10, 1929, in Lupao, Nueva Ecija, Philippines, she was a seamstress for the U.S. Naval Base in Illinois and member of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ) in the Local Congregation of Honokaa.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. May 26 at the family residence, 64-147 Makaloa Loop, Waimea, 896-4013 for visitation. Friends may also call from 8 to 10 a.m. May 27 at the family residence. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. at the Honokaa County Cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by sons, Ernesto (Marina) Escarrilla of Illinois, Romeo (Cris) Escarrilla of San Diego; daughters, Helen Inocencio and Lalaine (Carlito) Gavina, both of Waimea; brothers, Jamie Bocalbos of Philippines, Benjamin (Narcisa) Bocalbos of Honolulu; sister, Rosario (Jim) O’Neil of New Mexico; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charles Kakigi

Charles Shigemi Kakigi, 80, of Hilo died May 8, 2015, at Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born July 25, 1934, in Honolulu, she was a Federal Aviation Administration flight service station manager and an Air Force and Air National Guard veteran.

Private services were held. Family requests no flowers or monetary gifts.

He is survived by wife, Doris Kakigi; sons, Wesley Kakigi, Wendell Kakigi; stepdaughter, Jayne (Curtis) Takahama; sisters, Lois (Toshiaki) Sakata, Frances (Harry) Toyama; two grandsons; nieces and nephews.

Ivan Simon, 72, of Kailua-Kona died April 3, 2015, at Kona Community Hospital. He was born May 19, 1942, in Erie, Penn.

Herbert DeSilva, 82, of Hilo died April 26, 2015. He was born in Hilo.
