American Legion to clean up highway

The American Legion Kona Post 20 will meet at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the VFW post on Kaiwi Street.

The group will also perform an Adopt-A-Highway trash pickup June 20. Participants should meet at 6 a.m. at the entrance to Pualani Estates.

Mauna Kea Soil and Water Conservation District meets

Mauna Kea Soil and Water Conservation District will meet from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation District Waimea Service Center.

Kailua-Kona Seniors meet Wednesday

Kailua-Kona Seniors will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hale Halawai for a quarterly business meeting, followed by the celebration of June birthdays.

Libraries closed for Kamehameha Day

In observance of Kamehameha Day, all public libraries will be closed on Thursday. Kealakekua Public Library, normally closed on Thursdays, will also be closed on Friday.

Kona Historical Society closed Thursday

In observance of Kamehameha Day, Kona Historical Society will be closed on Thursday, including the Portuguese Stone Oven Bread Baking Program, the H.N Greenwell Store Museum and the Kona Coffee Living History Farm.

The bread program will resume June 18.

Status of Women discussed Friday

The Hawaii County Committee on the Status of Women meets at 9 a.m. Friday at the Hawaii County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney conference room in Hilo.
