Hawaii man arrested, sentenced 2 years after fatal crash

HONOLULU (AP) — A 54-year-old Kailua man has been arrested and sentenced in connection a 2-year-old fatal crash on the Pali Highway.

Hawaii News Now reports (http://bit.ly/1KYjHQM ) that 54-year-old Charles Kiakona was taken into custody Monday on suspicion of third degree negligent homicide, a misdemeanor. He pleaded no contest to the charges and was sentenced to a one-year deferral period and 45 hours of community service.

In January 2013, 83-year-old Herbert Muraoka was killed when his car slammed into a flatbed tow truck making an illegal U-turn. Kiakona was the driver of the truck.
