Hugh Clark

Hugh James Clark, 75, of Hilo died June 11, 2015, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Santa Rosa, Calif., he was a retired news reporter for the former Honolulu Advertiser, former news editor at the Hawaii Tribune-Herald, founding member and past president of the Big Island Press Club, 30-year volunteer with the American Lung Association, serving 10 years on its national board of directors, member of the Nissan Hall of Honor and was inducted into the University of Hawaii-Hilo Athletic Hall of Fame.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. June 19 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 5 p.m. celebration of life. Family requests casual attire be worn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Big Island Press Club Scholarship Foundation or the American Lung Association.

He is survived by wife, Anne Clark of Hilo; daughter, Sandhya Clark of New York City; brother, Thomas (Judie) David Clark of Piedmont, Calif.; sister, Joan (David) Clark Sinclair of Hayward, Calif.; one niece.

Victor DeVera Jr.

Victor DeVera Jr., 78, of Hilo died May, 31, 2015, at the Tripler Army Medical Center on Oahu. Born Aug. 1, 1936, in Hilo, he was retired from the former Aloha Airlines as a ramp and cargo agent, was an Army veteran and member of the Hawaii Army National Guard.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. June 21 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a noon service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is a survived by wife, Susan Maluo DeVera of Hilo; daughters, Jodi (Marcos) Ellazar, Dawn (Alan) Bondaug, both of Hilo, Darlene (Glen) Matsushita of Paauilo, Dodie (Byron) Thomas of Honokaa; sons, Desmond (Robin) Matsumura of Paauilo, Troy DeVera of Hilo; stepdaughter, Terry Larson of Hilo; stepsons, Elijah (Karen) Maluo of Honolulu, Scott (Kim) Maluo of Hilo; brother, Paul (Vera) DeVera of San Diego; sister, Rosemarie (Victor) Cabada Flores of Hilo; 32 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Gladys Kunitomo

Gladys H. Kunitomo, 78, of Keei died June 14, 2015, at Kona Community Hospital. Born March 31, 1937, in Kealakekua, she was a self-employed beautician and owner of Glady’s Beauty Salon and member of Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Women’s Association, Keei Mura and Keei Buddhist Church Cemetery.

Friends may call at 1 p.m. June 21 at Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple in Kealakekua for a 2 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

She is survived by husband, Stanley Kunitomo of Keei; sons, Bryan Kunitomo of Kealakekua, Cy (Noreen) Kunitomo and Kel (Pattie) Kunitomo, both of Kailua-Kona; brother, Larry (Shirley) Yonemura of Oahu; sister, Irene (Jerry) Omori of Ohio; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
