An 18-year-old woman remains in police custody Monday following a domestic dispute that left a Kona man critically injured.

At 10:05 p.m. Sunday, Kona Patrol officers were at Kona Community Hospital for an unrelated case when a 20-year-old Kailua-Kona man arrived in a private vehicle and was taken to the emergency room with a laceration to his left forearm, the Hawaii Police Department. Investigation revealed that the man had received the injury in what was described as a domestic altercation at a home on the 73-1200 block of Awakea Street in Kailua-Kona.

Shortly after midnight, officers arrested 18-year-old Synise Santos at the hospital on suspicion of first-degree assault and abuse of a family/household member. She was taken to the Kona police cellblock while detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Division continue the investigation.

The victim remains at the hospital in critical condition.
