An 18-year-old woman arrested early Monday in connection with a domestic dispute that sent a man to the hospital in critical condition has been released.

On Tuesday afternoon, after conferring with prosecutors, detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section released 18-year-old Synise Santos, who was being held at the Kona police cellblock, pending further investigation, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

Santos was arrested after a 20-year-old Kailua-Kona man was taken via private vehicle to Kona Community Hospital with a laceration to his left forearm late Sunday evening. He was later transferred to Kaiser Medical Center on Oahu, where he remains in critical condition.

Investigation revealed that he had received the injury during a domestic altercation at a home on Awakea Street in Kailua-Kona.

Police say detectives are continuing the investigation.
