Army officials at Pohakuloa Training Area are opening several areas for bow hunting from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Training areas one through six, nine and 12 through 16, and the unfenced portion of training area 18, will be open for bow hunting of mammals only, according to the U.S. Army Garrison-Hawaii. The bag limit is one sheep, one goat and one pig, per day.
All hunters must check in and check at one of the following hunter’s check-in stations: Kilohana, located on Saddle Road between mile markers 43 and 44; Puu Huluhulu, located at the intersection of Mauna Kea Access and Saddle roads near mile marker 28; or Puu Anahulu, located on Mamalahoa Highway across from mile marker 14. Checkout time is no later than 7 p.m. each day. Hunting passes will be provided at check-in stations beginning Friday after 5 p.m.
Hunter access to training areas one thorugh six is accessible by foot only from the parking lot at the Old Saddle Road Gate across from the Mauna Kea Recreation Area. Access to training areas nine, 12 though 16 and the unfenced portion of 18 is through the Ahi Gate at 38.5 mile marker on the new Saddle Road. There is no vehicle access allowed east of training area 9.
