Firefighters extinguish 600-acre brush fire on Kauai

LIHUE (AP) — Kauai firefighters have extinguished a large brush fire in Kaumakani.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports (http://bit.ly/1HfFWSA ) that the blaze went over nearly 600 acres of land owned by Gay & Robinson. The flames broke out before 1 p.m. Wednesday and were extinguished at about 4 p.m.

Ground crews and the Fire Department’s Air One helicopter responded to the fire. The landowner also provided water trucks and other equipment to help firefighters control the flames.
