HONOLULU (AP) — Honolulu’s former mayor is again taking on the top leadership role at the Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports (http://bit.ly/1BQZHh6) Mufi Hannemann was the president and, later, CEO of the organization in 2011 and for part of 2012. He was selected by a search committee from a pool of candidates to take on the role again.

Kelly Hoen chairs the group’s board of directors and said in a statement that Hannemann was selected because of his experience and leadership record.

The former mayor replaces George Szigeti, who was selected last month to serve as the president of the Hawaii Tourism Authority.

Hannemann was the mayor of Honolulu from 2005 to 2010 and unsuccessfully ran for governor last year.

He starts at the nonprofit advocacy organization July 20.
