HONOLULU (AP) — A reserve officer of the Honolulu Police Department has pleaded guilty to federal charges stemming from a September assault of two men in a game room.

Joseph “Joe” Becera pleaded guilty Monday for not reporting an assault by an on-duty police officer and lying when FBI agents questioned him about it. He faces a maximum 3-year prison sentence for failing to report and a maximum five years for lying. He will be sentenced in October.

Another officer, Nelson Tamayori, is scheduled to plead guilty to failing to report the assault Wednesday.

HPD officer Vincent Morre pleaded guilty last month to two counts of abusing his police powers to deprive the constitutional rights of a person when he assaulted two patrons of an illegal gambling house last September.
