King’s Swim slated for July 4
The annual King’s Swim — the final leg of the Triple Crown of open water swimming — will be held July 4.
The 1.2-mile ocean swim is in Kailua Bay to the King’s Buoy and back.

Konawaena looking for Wrestling coach
Wally Nakashima has retired from his position after many outstanding seasons as the head coach. Nakashima had been associated with Wildcat Wrestling for over twenty years and led Konawaena to multiple championship seasons as the head coach.
Those interested in applying are encouraged to contact the athletic office and request and application for the position. The position will remain open until filled and preference will be given to those applicants who apply before July 22.

Horseshoe club to start third league play
The Kona Horseshoe Pitcher’s Club will begin its third league play of 2015 on July 9 at the Kona Palms Courts horseshoe pits behind the tennis courts at Old Kona Airport Park.
Membership is required for this approximately 8-10 week sanctioned doubles league. New or returning players will be paired whenever possible. Handicap scoring is used enabling players of all levels to participate. League play is from 4-6 p.m. on Thursdays, with a weekly fee of $5.
The Kona Horseshoe Pitcher’s Club offers free, informal play from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays at Old Kona Airport Park. Also, come down to the horseshoe pits on Thursday evenings to meet some of the players. Pitchers of all levels are welcome.

Youth sailing camps offered
Big Island Sailing Foundation and Kona Sailing Club are offering three one-week sailing camps of fun, safe, learning activities in July.
For beginners over 12 years old and intermediate dinghy / keelboat sailors there are two session: July 6 through 12 and July 13 through 17. For young sailors ready for performance dinghy sailing and an introduction to racing, a camp will be held July 27 through 31. All day camps are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m and are run out of Honokohau Harbor.
Rob Balloch and other veteran instructors will lead the camps. No prior sailing experience is required for the the first two camps, however, participants should be able to swim and be comfortable on the water. Booklets and life jackets will be provided.
Participants need to be Kona Sailing Club Junior members, which costs $20 the first year. Big Island Sailing Foundation is a charitable organization and requests a fee of $170 from new sailors, $150 for returning sailors. Scholarships are available.

Ohana Shoreline Fishing Tournament August 21-23
The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation invites anglers to register for the 19th annual Ohana Shoreline Fishing Tournament that will be held August 21-23.
Completed registration forms must be turned in to the Department’s Recreation Division office at 799 Pi‘ilani Street in Hilo or postmarked by Friday, July 31. Registration forms, along with tournament rules, are available at County Parks and Recreation facilities island-wide, S. Tokunaga Store in Hilo and J. Hara Store in Kurtistown. The forms also can be found online at hawaiicounty.gov/parks-and-recreation/.
Weigh-ins will be conducted from noon until 1:30 p.m. on August 23, at Honokaa Gymnasium.
Separate divisions are offered for keiki 5-12 years old, teens, men, women, kupuna at least 55 years old, and ohana or families. There also will be a barbless circle hook challenge. Entry fee is either $25 or $30 per person or family, depending on the division entered. Please make checks payable to County of Hawaii Director of Finance.

Waiakea coach meeting
There will be a coaches meeting for all Waiakea High coaches (head coaches, assistant coaches and volunteer coaches)on July 11 at 11:30 a.m. at the school’s library.
The agenda includes an overview of WHS/DOE Policies and Procedures (Concussion, and Heat Awareness training) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and then a PCA coaches education from 1-3 p.m.

Keiki play is available for $25 and they will receive complimentary rental clubs. Ginoza also talks about the return of the Bob May Golf Academy July 1-31, which is open to everyone. Bob May, known for his dual with Tiger Woods at the 2000 PGA Championship, played 20 years on the PGA.
Tom Page will be on the show to talk about how Detroit has become bicycle friendly with the weekly Slow Roll with several thousand recreational bikers. Everyday bike tours are offered by volunteers like Tom to showcase the neighborhoods, restaurants and cultural sites of Detroit
