Rosita Eugenio

Rosita Libron Eugenio, 78, of Keaau died June 13, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Aug. 30, 1936, in Alegria, Cebu City, Philippines, she was a homemaker.

Friends may call at 6 p.m. July 10 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 7 p.m. prayer service. Family requests casual attire be worn. Committal services and burial will be held in the Philippines.

She is survived by husband, Melecio Eugenio Sr. of Keaau; sons, Ignacio Eugenio of Honolulu, Melecio (Bernadette) Eugenio Jr. of Keaau, Marlon (Jacklynn) Eugenio of Hawaiian Paradise Park; daughters, Estrella Eugenio Sabado, Imelda Eugenio and Editha Eugenio, all of Philippines; 33 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren.

Genevieve Tavares

Genevieve Myrtle (Dotson) Tavares, 85, of Honokaa died June 1, 2015, at Hale Hoola Hamakua. Born in Caldwell, Idaho, she was a former parts fabricator with Boeing Co. and member of Hamakua Christian Fellowship.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. July 10 at the Honokaa Salvation Army chapel for a 10 a.m. service, followed by burial at the Honokaa County Cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are appreciated.

She is survived by husband, Eugene Tavares of Honokaa; sons, Robert (Debbie) Harris of Sun City West, Ariz., John (Sharon) Harris of Greenville, Tenn.; daughter, Jackie (Bob) LaFrance of Everett, Wash.; brother, John Dotson of California; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.

William Gomes Sr.

William “Willy” Gomes Sr., 86, of Kailua-Kona died June 24, 2015, at his residence. Born Feb. 8, 1929, in Hamakua, he was a retired ranch foreman for Huehue Ranch, a former truck driver for Hamakua Plantation and a rodeo icon.

Private service were held.

He is survived by son, Allen (Flora) Gomes of Kailua-Kona; brothers, Johnny Gomes and George Gomes, both of Hilo, Herbert (Judy) Gomes and Clarence (Sharon) Gomes, both of Pukalani, Maui; sisters, Louise (Merle) Coon of Washington, Alice Hollenback of Santa Rosa, Calif., Evelyn Costa of Hilo, Frances Wong of North Carolina; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Esther Suyama

Esther Keiko Suyama, 84, of Hilo died June 19, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Nov. 4, 1930, in Hilo, she was retired from the American Lung Association.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by nieces, Florence (Jerry) Miyazono of Hilo, Carol (Michael) Sullivan of Honolulu; nephew, Patrick Abe of Wahiawa, Oahu; and caregivers, Edmund (Gail) Pali Jr. of Hilo.

Roy Amano

Roy Tsugio Amano, 71, of Hilo died April 18, 2015, in Oregon. Born Dec. 6, 1943, in Hilo, he was retired from the former Verizon/Hawaiian Telephone Co., a former member of the Hawaii Army National Guard and member of Piihonua Community Association, Holona Golf Club, Papaikou Senior Softball Team, Asahi Baseball Athletic Club and Wanderers Baseball Athletic Club.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. July 11 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 3 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Hazelynn Amano of Hilo; daughters, Lynne Amano of Hillsboro, Ore., Karis Amano of Corvallis, Ore.; brother, Richard (Doris) Amano of Honolulu; sisters, Terue Shimabuku of Honolulu, Betty Ikehara of Kailua, Oahu, June Strong of Virginia; numerous nieces and nephews.

Nelson Doi

Nelson Kiyoshi Doi, 93, of Waimea died May 16, 2015, at home. Born Jan. 1, 1922, in Pahoa, he served the state of Hawaii as lieutenant governor, senator and Third Circuit Court judge; Hawaii County as deputy county attorney, and the Republic of the Marshall Islands as magistrate of the high court.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. July 12 at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel Oceanside Luau Grounds for a 4 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn. In lieu of flowers and monetary gifts, donations in his memory may be made to North Hawaii Hospice, 65-1328 Kawaihae Road, Kamuela, HI 96743.

He is survived by son, David (Aimee Love) Doi of Waimea; daughter, Katherine (Bruce Phillips) Doi of Palo Alto, Calif.; seven grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Peter Abraham

Peter Mahi Abraham, 35, of Kona died July 1, 2015, in Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital. Born Dec. 5, 1979, in Hilo, he was the manager and mechanic with Tats Union 76 service station in Kona.

A memorial service will be at 9 a.m. Aug. 8 at OTEC Beach, with a paina to follow.

He is survived by mother, Myra Abraham of Kona; daughters, Pualei Abraham and Anela Abraham, both of Maui; sister, Alohi (Kalani Patacsil) Abraham; hanai sister, Heather Goto; brothers, Timothy (Lehua Ulu), Makaio C., both of Kona, Pelika Abraham of Wailua Homesteads; hanai parents, Lionel and Elaine Tatsutani; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews and cousins.

Owen Hisashi Ariki, 74, of Hilo died May 7, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired real estate broker.

He is survived by wife, Anne Ariki of Hilo; son, Jason (Cathy) Ariki of Hilo; daughter, Lynn (Floyd) Murashige of Honolulu, stepsons, Alton (Willa) Nakamichi of Hilo, Tad (Madelyn) Nakamichi of Kauai; two granddaughters.

Dr. Charles Belcher

Dr. Charles Hayden Belcher, 90, of Hilo died June 19, 2015, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Muskogee, Okla., he was a retired physician.

He is survived by sons, Daniel (Sylvia) Belcher, Erik (Patrice) Belcher and Robert (Janet) Belcher, all of Hilo, Mark (Cheryl) Belcher of Pahoa, Craig (Sherry) Belcher of North Little Rock, Ark.; daughter, Claudia (Jeffery) McCall of Volcano; brother, William Belcher of the mainland; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Thelma Lewis

Thelma Hatsuno Lewis, 88, of Kohala died June 23, 2015, at Kohala Hospital. Born in North Kohala, she was retired from Theo H. Davies and Gibsons Discount Department Store.
