A high surf advisory is in effect for all shores of the Big Island through 6 a.m. Monday, with 6 to 10-foot surf. South shore are being especially impacted. Strong breaking waves and currents are making swimming difficult and dangerous. Swimmers and surfers should exercise caution and heed the advice of ocean safety officers, and boaters should be on the lookout for recreational surfers using harbor channels to access surfing areas.
Hot, sticky weather will continue, with a decrease in trade winds through Sunday as the remnants of former tropical cyclone Enrique move to the north of the islands. This will result in generally warm and humid conditions, with sea breezes bringing some afternoon showers over interior and leeward areas, according to National Weather Service forecasters. During the nights, trades should remain strong enough to keep a few showers across windward areas, especially over the Big Island.
A more typical trade wind weather pattern is expected to return by the middle of next week.
