The Kailua Village Artists featured member artist for August is oil painter Marilyn Koschella.

Since Koschella grew up in Southern California, swimming and spending time at the beach was her favorite past time. This is reflected in her paintings of the ocean. Before purchasing a home in Hawaii in 2008, most of her paintings included lakes and rivers. After moving to the Big Island, she has added seascapes of the Kona Coast to her repertoire.

Koschella is displaying oil paintings she has created using a palette knife. She also specializes in colorfully crocheted Hawaiian lei to meet the residents’ and visitors’ needs of leis that will not wilt.

“I feel fortunate to be the August featured artist for Kailua Village Artist gallery,” she said. She will be displaying part of her collection that she has created from paintings of Claude Monet.

The Kailua Village Artists Gallery is located at 75-5729 Alii Drive, Suite C-110 in the Kona Marketplace, up the blue walkway just north of Kakina Lane. The gallery is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
