Senior hui meeting Tuesday

The Senior Roundtable Hui will have as its topic, “Senior Staycation Vacation,” on Tuesday. The discussion will cover how to take a vacation creatively. The format will be interactive and all age groups are invited to the meeting from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Pink Mocha Cafe above Home Depot. There is no charge for the meeting other than if purchasing a coffee of tea. Parking is easy access and free.

Nominations accepted for retail business awards

Retail Merchants of Hawaii is accepting nominations for the 2015 Hookela Awards, recognizing excellence in Hawaii’s retail industry. The word hookela means to strive or aspire to excellence.

Categories include Retailer of the Year, Governor’s Award to honor someone who has been a champion in the retail industry, State Retail Business of the Year, Retail Business of the Year for Hawaii, Maui County, Kauai and Oahu, Retail Employee of the Year, Resort Retail Business of the Year, Fastest Growing Retail Business of the Year, and New Retail Business of the Year. Nomination forms are available at rmhawaii.org/2015-hookela-awards.

Deadline for nominations is Aug. 31. Winners will be announced at Retail Merchants of Hawaii’s annual Hookela Awards luncheon Oct. 22 at the Sheraton Waikiki Ballroom.

Words and Wine features three authors

Kona Stories Book Shop will hold its free Word and Wine event at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The event features local authors Julie Ziemelis, John W. Rickey and Laura Dawn.

Dawn is a holistic health consultant, raw food chef and is the author of “Unhooked: A Holistic Approach to Ending Your Struggle with Food” as well as “Mindful Eating for Dummies.”

Author and rogue astrophysicist Rickey lives on the Kona Coast. He is the developer of the revolutionary theory of the Dual-Time Universe and creator of futurenewsnetwork.com, as well as being a surfer, artist and musician. He is the author of the “Island Universe, first time on earth ­– The Artifact” and “Island Universe, first time on earth – The Genesis Mission.”

Ziemelis is owner of Ziemelis Communications in Kona. “How to Move to Kona” is an insider’s resource guide which includes invaluable information including links and phone numbers for every service needed to make a move to the island.
