Police investigating suspicious Puna house fire

Police are asking for the public’s helping in providing information about a suspicious fire at an unoccupied house in Puna.

In the early hours of June 12, police and firefighters responded to a house on North Glenwood Road in Kurtistown, 0.1 mile in from Route 11, to find the structure engulfed in flames. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the house had been vacant for some time and was unoccupied, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

Fire personnel extinguished the flames and estimated the damage to the structure at $25,000. A fire inspector also indicated that the fire was intentionally set.

The specific cause of the fire is still under investigation.
