NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — The world’s largest naval base has a new commanding officer.

Capt. Douglas E. Beaver took the helm of Naval Station Norfolk on Friday during a change-of-command ceremony. He succeeds Capt. Robert E. Clark Jr.

Beaver is a Honolulu, Hawaii, native and a graduate of Virginia Tech. He reported to Norfolk in February 2014 as Clark’s executive officer.

The Norfolk base is home to the largest concentration of U.S. Navy forces.

Clark will retire in November after 26 years of naval service.
