Editor’s note: This log of property crimes reported in the Kona District is a feature of West HawaiiToday and is compiled using Hawaii Police Department records. The department considers North and South Kona one district.

Burglary

A man reported that someone broke into his home and went for his gun safe some time between 7 and 8:30 a.m. July 29 in the 73-1400 block of Ihumoe Street.

The man reported that the burglar damaged the gun safe while trying to remove it from his residence. The victim came home and saw the man come out the front door of the residence. The suspect fled the area in a blue hatchback vehicle. The total estimated value of the safe is $126.88.

A person reported they confronted someone who had entered their home in the 76-0200 block of Royal Poinciana Way on the night of Aug. 5. The unidentified person entered the home through an unlocked sliding screen door, going into the bedroom. There the victim confronted the person, “who immediately left the residence.

Someone stole some of a woman’s jewelry some time between 7:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Aug. 8. The burglar entered the home on the 74-0700 Paia Place and stole nine pieces of jewelry valued at $6,350.

Stolen vehicle

A gray 1991 Toyota pickup was stolen from in front of a woman’s home on the night of July 28. Some time between 10 p.m. July 27 and 10:30 a.m. July 28 the truck was taken from the 73-15000 A Hao Way. Its plate is HTC 284.

A silver 2001 Jeep Cherokee was reported stolen from the Kona International Airport’s employee parking lot. The Jeep, with plate ZCG494, was taken some time between 7 p.m. and midnight July 31.

A man’s pickup truck was stolen from a residence on the 84-1100 block of Bruner Road between 9 p.m. Aug. 1 and 10 a.m. Aug. 2, a resident reported. The truck was described as a white Ford Ranger with license plate HBX349.

A rental car was reported stolen from the 77-6400 block of Kilohana Street. The vehicle, plate KAW817, was taken some time between 10:15 p.m. Aug. 1 and 5:15 Aug. 2. The victim reported that it was locked and secured.

A maroon 1994 Chevrolet S10 Blazer was reported stolen from a home in the block of 78-0100 Holua Road on Aug. 4. The truck was taken some time between 6 p.m. Aug. 3 and 12:30 p.m. Aug. 4. The reporting person said the vehicle has spots of rust on the hood and runs poorly, so he didn’t think it would drive very far.

A black Honda Ruckus motor scooter was reported stolen from a home in the 77-6400 block of Pualani Street. The scooter, plate 562HNV, has minor damage to the left floorboard and side mirror, and a white Bikeworks sticker on the steering column.

A man was placing bicycles on the outside rack as a business was opening on Aug. 6 in the 75-5700 block of Alii Drive. A man got onto one of the bikes and pedalled north on Alii before turning onto Sarona Lane.

A vehicle was taken from the west bound shoulder of Kaiminani Drive between 11 p.m. Aug. 7 and 6:30 a.m. Aug. 8.

A black 1997 Jeep Wrangler with license plate JPP517 was stolen some point between 7:30 and 8 a.m. Aug. 10 while it was parked on the 75-5800 Alii Drive.

Unlawful entry into motor vehicle

A woman reported items were taken from her unlocked vehicle between 5:30 and 6:30 a.m. July 27 in the 74-0500 block of Honokohau Street. Her unlocked vehicle was entered and her purse and gym bag were taken.

Items were reported stolen from a gold Honda CRV that was parked at a beach in Honaunau from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. June 27. The victims reported that someone took two wallets out of the car. They said the vehicle had its windows partially open for heat and believed the doors were locked. All the cards were canceled and no other items were taken.

Someone stole a backpack from a vehicle parked in the Ilima Court parking lot on the afternoon of July 29. The theft was some time between 3:30 and 5 p.m. to a vehicle with the plate of HJN243, the victim reported. The vehicle was entered through a open and unlocked passenger door. Inside the backpack were bikinis, wetsuits, hats and other items totalling $1,430.

Items were stolen from a vehicle with a plate HMG456 on Aug. 3 in the 75-5800 block of Alii Drive. The value was estimated at $1,215.

Medications and clothes were reported stolen from a vehicle parked in the 75-5800 Walua Road. The vehicle, plate HBE084, was entered some time between 11:30 p.m. Aug. 3 and 1 p.m. Aug. 4. The offender entered through a “possibly opened front passenger side door of the vehicle,” and took a prescription medication bag and three bags of clothes. The total value was estimated at $150.
