Business workshop explains SAM certification

A Small Business Development Center seminar will demonstrate how to become registered in the System for Award Management from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kuakini Tower, Suite 216, 75-5722 Kuakini Highway in Kailua-Kona.

All contractors need to be registered in SAM to do business with the federal government.

Cop on Top to raise funds for Special Olympics Hawaii

Police officers volunteering on their own time will sit up on scaffolding at Walmart for three days and two nights until they raise a minimum of $15,000 for Special Olympics Hawaii programs.

Cop on Top will be held Thursday through Saturday. All funds raised will remain in West Hawaii and will be used to purchase uniforms, equipment, transportation, coach training, and will fund competitions for West Hawaii athletes.

Special Olympics Hawaii offers a year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and individuals in the West Hawaii community. No fees are charged to participating athletes.

Hulihee Palace celebrates new songbook

Hulihee Palace celebrates the publication of a new Hawaiian music songbook and CD release by Aunty Noelani Mahoe from 10 a.m. to noon Friday. Admission is free.

The Daughters of Hawaii will offer a morning of music with a sing-a-long. Mahoe will also sign her new songbook, which offers 26 Hawaiian songs — each with lyrics, chords and professional recordings. The book will be available for purchase at the palace gift shop, which can be reached at 329-6558.

Kona Town Night Market to support urban arts festival

Kona Brewing Co. and Brewery Block will host a free community gathering event, Kona Town Night Market, Saturday to benefit Ride The Breaks, an annual Urban Arts Festival.

Kona Town Night Market will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. and will be a family friendly event open to all ages.

Held at the Brewery Block, the event features a vendor marketplace, live art, food vendors, interactive demonstrations and a Kona Brewing Co. beer garden for those age 21 and older.

All beer garden proceeds will benefit Ride The Breaks, which aims to empower young people to know the possibilities of art and connect with a larger community of artists, as well as promote positive hip hop culture.

Yoga seminar geared toward runners

Club Rehab in Kealakekua, 79-7422 Mamalahoa Highway, will host a yoga seminar titled “Yoga Solutions for Runners” from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Attendees will learn how to get more from running workouts, strengthen, lengthen and align bones and muscles, improve flexibility and prevent injury with yoga poses and sequences for runners.
