Firefighters extinguish Pahoa house fire

Fire officials are investigating the cause of a Monday evening structure fire that damaged a home in Pahoa.

Responding to the 6:30 p.m. report, firefighters arrived at 15-2685 Kumu St. to find smoke emanating from the rafters. Flames were also visible through the walls of the structure, which had a metal roof and attached carport, according to the Hawaii Fire Department.

Firefighters forced entry into the locked, fenced property because of boarded entryways. The bathroom and part of the adjoining bedroom were on fire and most of the home’s interior sustained smoke damage. The fire was extinguished by 6:46 p.m. and the scene was turned over the a fire inspector.

Fire officials estimated damage to the structure at $15,000. No injuries were reported.
