Roundtable discussion to focus on seniors and falls
In honor of falls prevention month, the Senior Rountdable Hui will discuss “Seniors vs. Falls” during its meeting on Tuesday.
The meeting is from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Pink Mocha Cafe just above Home Depot.
Discussion will utilize a 10-question list regarding prevention and management of falls and the importance of preventing them for good health and the economy. Falls may cost as much as $93,000 for one emergency room visit regardless of the severity.
The Hui is a gathering of seniors, family members, aging industry and anyone interested in aging issues. There is no charge for the meeting other than if purchasing a coffee of tea.

Senior ID distribution begins Tuesday
The Coordinated Services for the Elderly will issue senior ID cards for those 60 and older from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Kailua-Kona Walmart.
Cards will also be issued from 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 8 at L. Yoshimatsu Senior Center in Waimea, from 11 a.m. to noon Sept. 14 at Naalehu Community Center, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 15 at Yano Hall in Captain Cook, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 23 at West Hawaii Civic Center and from 3 to 4 p.m. Sept. 29 at Hale Hauoli Senior Center in Honokaa.

Delaney receives broadcasters scholarship
Chloe Delaney, a graduate on Konawaena High School, is among students receiving scholarships from the Hawaii Association of Broadcasters Inc. to assist students in their pursuit of college study and their career goal of working in the broadcast industry in Hawaii.
High school seniors and college students with a minimum 2.5 grade point average and the desire to work in the broadcast industry in Hawaii upon completion of school were eligible for awards.
Delaney is attending Linfield College.
Mauna Kea Beach Hotel announces renovations
Mauna Kea Beach Hotel’s Copper Terrace, along with the former Kaunaoa Bar &Grill, will undergo a major transformation over the next several months.
A traditional Hawaiian blessing by Kahu Danny Akaka Jr. officially launched the $4.5 million renovation project that will revitalize Copper Terrace. Simultaneously, the former Kaunaoa Bar &Grill will be transformed into what will become a ballroom. The new ballroom, with floor to ceiling windows framing views of Kaunaoa Bay, will boast nearly 4,000 square feet of indoor function space, outdoor pre-function areas, as well as an adjacent boardroom.
The Copper Terrace is slated for completion in mid-December. The new Kaunaoa Ballroom will debut mid-January.
School invited to enter Recycle-Bowl
Recycle Hawaii announces the fifth annual Recycle-Bowl Competition, a nationwide recycling incentive open to all elementary, middle and high schools in Hawaii. The four-week competition, which begins Oct. 19, culminates on Nov. 15, America Recycles Day, known locally as “Hawaii Recycles Day.” Schools submit a final report of how much they recycled by volume or weight and can win an award.
