Libraries closed for Labor Day

In observance of Labor Day, all public libraries will be closed from Saturday through Sept. 7.

Kealakekua Public Library, normally closed on Thursdays, will be open Thursday.

Line dancing class begins Thursday

The next session of line dancing classes begins Thursday at the Kona United Methodist Church on Palani Road. Beginner level is from 6 to 7 p.m.; more experienced from 7 to 8. This session is eight weeks long and ends Oct. 22. The fee for an hour class is $35 for the session or $7 to drop-in. For both hours, the session fee is $49 or $9 for one night.

Participants should wear comfortable clothing and shoes, preferably no new athletic shoes.

All ages are welcome and children younger than 12 may attend free of charge.

Ocean View services discussed at West Hawaii Hui Laulima meeting

West Hawaii Hui Laulima will meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon Friday in the West Hawaii Community Health Center Community Meeting Room on the ground floor.

Members from the Ocean View Community Center will present “Life in Ocean View” to encourage service agencies to stretch their services.

Kona Orchid Society meets Friday

Kona Orchid Society meets Friday at Makua Lani Christian Academy, 74-4966 Kealakaa St. in Kailua-Kona.

Ty Lewis and Clay Callaway from Hilo Hana Creations will demonstrate how to create baskets and stands for orchids, using natural items found on lawns and beach debris.

Attendees should arrive by 6 p.m. to help set up and bring a pupu to share during a 6:15 potluck dinner.

There will be a display of orchids brought in by members. Those who have a pest-free, blooming plant are encouraged to bring it. There will also be a drawing for orchids.

Real Estate Commission meeting in Kona

The Real Estate Commission will hold committee meetings beginning at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the West Hawaii Civic Center’s community meeting hale, Building G. The Laws and Rules Review Committee meets at 9:30 a.m. followed by the Condominium Review Committee and finally, the Education Review Committee.

The commission will also hold a Specialists’ Office for the Day while the meetings are in progress and also by appointment. This will provide real estate licensees, condominium owners, educational providers or anyone else interested in real estate licensing or condominium issues with an opportunity to meet with the specialists to discuss their concerns.
