Police have arrested a woman on an arson charge after her home burned Wednesday in Ka’u.
At 6:02 a.m. Wednesday, police arrived at a home on the 92-8800 block of Reef Circle Mauka in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates where firefighters were already on the scene battling the fire.
Emily Smith, 36, of Ocean View, was arrested after an investigation showed “the fire had been set intentionally,” according to police.
Damage to the home was estimated at $175,000. Firefighters said the fire was well contained, with no flareups reported.
The investigation is ongoing.
