Florinda Betty Chaves, 85, of Hilo died Aug. 28, 2015, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, she was a retired cafeteria baker at Hilo High School and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Sept. 9 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial follows at Homelani Memorial Park. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by sister-in-law, Henrietta Piilani Chaves of Hilo; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Ichiro Fujimori

Ichiro Fujimori, 88, of Hilo died Aug. 25, 2015, at his residence. Born in Mauna Loa, Molokai, he was a retired heavy equipment operator, member of Operating Engineers Local 3 and a World War II Army veteran.

Inurnment services will take place at noon Sept. 11 at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2.

Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Dolores Fujimori of Hilo; daughter, Lisa Fujimori of Arizona; sons, Jerry Fujimori, Gilbert Fujimori and Clayton Fujimori, all of Hilo, Cory Fujimori of New York; sister, Sueko (Salvador) Paragas of Honolulu; brother, Tokio Fujimori of Honolulu; three grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Beverly Medeiros

Beverly “Pumpkin” Suzanne Medeiros, 75, of Pahoa died Sept. 3, 2015, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired factory supervisor for Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut and member of the Ladies of the Round Table at Life Care Center, the Wailani Canoe Club, Koa Puna M/C and Wicked M/C.

Casimiro Carpio

Casimiro “Miro” Yadao Carpio, 79, of Kapaau died Aug. 23, 2015, at The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. Born Nov. 17, 1935, in Sanchez Mira, Cagayan, Philippines, he was a retired housekeeper for the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, employed at Island Harvest and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi and Kohala Kumiai.

An all-night vigil begins at 4 p.m. Sept. 11 at the family residence in Kapaau, 54-367 Union Mill Road. Friends may also call at 8 a.m. Sept. 12 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hawi, for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial follows at Hawi County Cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn.

Marta Pascual Abellera, 93, of Pahala died Aug. 17, 2015, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born Feb. 28, 1922, in Santa Barbara, Pangasinan, Philippines, she was a retired hand harvester for Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut and member of Pahala Holy Rosary Catholic Church and Pahala Filipino Club.

Marlon “Boa” William Kawehionalani Pacheco, 57, of Kawaihae died Aug. 23, 2015, at his residence. Born Aug. 1, 1958 in Hilo, he was a fisherman, hunter, cowboy, dishwasher, cook, auto detailer and member of Koa Puna Kohala Chapter.

Joshua Tidwell, 29, of Honokaa died Sept. 2, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, he formerly worked as a butcher and assistant chef.

Lars Peter Nielsen, 67, of Kailua-Kona died Sept. 1, 2015, in Honolulu. Born July 14, 1948, in Helsingor, Denmark, he was an electrician.

Clayton Punihaole

Clayton Bruce Punihaole, 67, of Kalaoa died July 25, 2015. Born in Kealakekua, he was a retired cryptographic electronic technician with the U.S. Department of Defense, pond restoration foreman at Kukio, an Air Force veteran and member of the Disabled American Veterans Kona Chapter Seven.

Services will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 12 at Kaulupulehu Beach Club (Hualalai Historic Kaulupulehu) with full military honors.

He is survived by wife, Pamela Punihaole of Kalaoa; sons, Ikaika (Nui) Giddens of Waianae, Oahu, Destine (Jacque) Punihaole and Destry (Carriel) Punihaole, both of Kalaoa; daughters, Kanani (Kimo) Hulama of Nanakuli, Oahu, Puanani (Franklin) Giddens-Cortez of Kalaoa; 13 grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Virginia Rapoza

Virginia Ako Rapoza, 98, of Captain Cook died July 10, 2015, at Hospice of Kona’s Nakamaru Hale. Born Sept. 10, 1916, in Kawanui, she was a housewife, coffee farmer and member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Sept. 12 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Honaunau for a 10 a.m. service with inurnment to follow. Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome.

James “Fuzzy” Takaaki Marumoto, 82, of Hilo died Aug. 14, 2015, at his residence. Born Nov. 28, 1932, in Kapapala, he was the retired proprietor of Truck &Trailer Service Inc. in Hilo and member of The Holy Christian Church.

Liza Fronda

Liza Naomi Tattsuke Fronda, 45, of Holualoa died August 23, 2015, at Kona Community Hospital. Born July 26, 1970, in Honolulu, she was a dental insurance coordinator.

Alvin Cazimero

Alvin (Winna) Cazimero of Penn Township, Pa., died Aug. 19, 2015. He was born in Honolulu.

Shizuko “Margaret” Hirako, 91, of Waimea died Aug. 11, 2015, at her home. Born Feb. 27, 1924, in Wahiawa, Oahu, she was the co-founder of Hirako Farms Inc. and member of Kamuela Japanese American Civic Association.

Kyoung Youn Ko, 64, of Hilo died Aug. 28, 2015, at Pohai Malama. She was born July 24, 1951, in Seoul, South Korea.

John Marean

John Herbert Marean, 97, of Kailua-Kona died Aug. 25, 2015, at his residence. Born Aug. 31, 1917, in Fallon, Nev., he was a retired educator and university professor, past president and life member of the National Science Teachers Association, a member of the American Legion Post 20 and World War II Air Force veteran.

Dorothy “Mudder” May Barber, 83, of Hilo died Aug. 21, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born March 18, 1932, in Syracuse, N.Y., she was a former deputy sheriff.

Falaniko “Niko” Himphill, 66, of Kurtistown died Aug. 17, 2015, at home. Born Jan. 23, 1949, in Pago Pago, American Samoa, he was a retired substitute teacher and a Vietnam War Army veteran.

Haruo Nakamura, 89, of Keaau died Aug. 7, 2015, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Olaa, he was the retired proprietor for Nakamura Sales &Service, an Army veteran and member of Puna Hongwanji Mission, Puna Lions Club, and Keaau Seniors Golf Club.
