Big Island woodworkers are invited to submit their work for the 10th Annual Big Island Woodworkers Invitational slated Sept. 26.

Although furniture is the focus, the Wailoa Center and Hawaii Island Art Alliance will accept all wood entries for the exhibit as long as they fit the wood criteria and are appropriate by state Parks standards. The Sept. 26 event runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Big Island Ukulele Guild will participate in this year’s exhibit showcasing more than 40 unique, one-of-a-kind ukuleles and will sponsor three Saturday events including two kanikapila jam sessions slated Oct. 3 and 17, and a ukulele building workshop on Oct. 17.

Also on display will be the watercolors of Dennis Leatherman and the ceramic art of Shelby Smith. Award-winning artist John Dawson will have his personal journey “John Dawson: The First Forty Years It Begins at the Beginning……” on display in the Fountain Gallery. All exhibits are on display Oct. 2 through 29.

Interested woodworkers can email the Hawaii Island Art Alliance at hiartalliance@gmail.com for additional information and to obtain an entry form.

Wailoa Center is free and open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The center is closed on Saturday, Sunday and state holidays.
