LAS VEGAS (AP) — An ex-convict took a plea deal to serve life in prison without parole in the Las Vegas slaying of his girlfriend’s husband, a U.S. Air Force service member from Guam.

Court officials say Michael Rodriguez agreed Tuesday to waive a penalty hearing and appeals of his murder, conspiracy, burglary and weapon convictions in the December 2010 slaying of Staff Sgt. Nathan Paet.

Prosecutor Frank Coumou (FRAHNK’ KOH’-moh) says the state agreed not to seek the death penalty.

Paet’s wife, Michelle Paet is due for trial Monday on murder, conspiracy and burglary charges.

She faces the death penalty if she’s convicted.

Rodriguez was tried first. Jurors found him guilty of plotting with Michelle Paet and two other people to kill Nathan Paet in a bid to collect $650,000 in life insurance.
