A woman was arrested after she allegedly tried to attack a police officer Tuesday night.

Lorelei Fujiko Jones, 58, of Kailua-Kona, came to where the Kuakini Highway was closed at Palani Street. A tree fell from the property of the Kona Brewing Co., snapping a pole and breaking lines. The crown of the tree filled the makai lane, causing the road closure.

Jones allegedly tried to enter the closed area and the officer attempted to stop her, police said.

“After the officer directed her to leave, she tried to slap and punch him and threatened to throw an object at him and then drove away,” wrote Chris Loos, media relations officer in an email.

The officer was not injured by the attempted assault, she said.

Jones was arrested at 8 a.m. Wednesday on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and failure to obey a police officer. She was released from custody pending further investigation.
