HONOLULU (AP) — A Kamehameha Schools trustee has stepped down from the board after a judge rejected her bid for a second term.

Hawaii News Now reports (http://bit.ly/1Rxk7za) trustee Janeen-Ann Olds resigned from her position Thursday. She served for five years as a board member of Kamehameha Schools, which educates nearly 50,000 native Hawaiians.

Probate Judge Derrick Chan rejected Olds’ bid for a second five-year term following recommendations from her fellow trustees that she not be reappointed to the position because of her role as an executive with companies run by a convicted tax evader.

Former trustees had also sent a letter to the state Probate Court, asking the court to reject Olds’ reappointment.

Olds’ attorney said there was no reason not to reappoint her client.
