Pahoa man charged in stabbing incident

A Pahoa man has been charged with allegedly stabbing a man on Wednesday night.

Boris Ivanovich Vereshak, who was previously identified as Boris Yarmolyk, 61, allegedly stabbed the 24-year-old victim after the escalation of an argument.

Another person intervened, which lead to mild injuries to Vereshak’s head, police said.

The victim was injured multiple times and taken to Hilo Medical Center, where he was listed as serious, but stable condition.

On Friday, Vereshak was charged with first-degree assault, third-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault. His bail was set at $10,000.

The same day the victim was released after recieving treatment, police said.
