Palace event remembers Princess Kaiulani

A free Afternoon at Hulihee Palace is planned from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday to remember the late Princess Kaiulani. Presenting hula and serenade by the Merrie Monarchs, the event is part of a yearlong series that honors Hawaii’s past monarchs and historical figures. Donations are appreciated. Bring a beach mat or chair as seating won’t be provided.

Princess Victoria Kawekiu Lunalilo Kalaninuiahilapalapa Kaiulani was the last heir to the Hawaiian throne. Born in 1875 to Princess Miriam Likelike, she was the niece of King Kalakaua.

Hulihee Palace is open for docent-guided and self-guided tours. Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, with the exception of the palace being open from 1 to 4 p.m. the Monday following the monthly Kokua Kailua Village Stroll. Palace admission for a self-guided tour is $8 for adults, $6 for kamaaina, military and seniors, and $1 for keiki 18 years and younger. Docent-guided tours are available upon request. Public Access Room offering sessions

This October, the Public Access Room is offering its free “We the Powerful!” teaching session on Hawaii Island. The workshop will explain Hawaii’s lawmaking process and provide tips on how the public can easily and effectively participate in the discussion. No registration is required.

The sessions are scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at the West Hawaii Civic Center, Liquor Control conference room; 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Thelma Parker Memorial Library, Waimea; and 11 a.m. Oct. 23 at the Ocean View Community Center.

Chamber networking event Wednesday

The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce invites the public to its monthly networking event, AfterHours, from 5 from 7 p.m. Wednesday at Rays on the Bay at the Sheraton Kona Resort &Spa at Keauhou Bay. The pau hana networking event affords attendees the chance to link with other businesses in the local business community, network with members, meet new members and exchange business cards.

Ulua fishermen seeking fishing site

Members of the International BBQ Station and Kasting Club of Waimea are looking for access onto private property for ulua shoreline fishing. Members are quiet, insured, willing to pay for access and will sign a liability waiver.
