The North Hawaii community came together on Saturday for the Blue Zone Project Kick-off at Kahilu Theatre and Town Hall in Waimea. Based on the principles of best selling author Dan Buettner and brought to Hawaii by HMSA, the Blue Zone initiative aims to make healthy choices easier through permanent changes to the environment, policy and social networks.

The project claims that “By taking an environmental approach to Well-being improvements at home, work, school, dining and grocery shopping, Blue Zone Project can help create real change in our community. Small changes over time can have a big impact on your personal well-being and the well-being of our community for many years to come.”

Those in attendance were treated to a variety of information booths, free massage, activities for the keiki, entertainment, cooking demonstrations, Move Naturally Activities and a keynote presentation by the author.
