Kahoolulu Leialoha

Kahoolulu “Lulu” Neki Leialoha, 89, of Hilo died Oct. 14, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker and member of Haili Church, Kaahumanu Society, and Keaukaha Community Association.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. Oct. 21 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 4 p.m. service. Family requests aloha attire be worn.

She is survived by daughters, Evalou (Stan) Yamabe, Janice (Anthony) Maldonado, Lorene (James) Hough, Evonne (Lawrence) Kaloi, Helen Henderson, all of Hilo, Harriet (Mike) Wilton of Utah, Miriam (Ken) St Louis of Washington state; sons, James (Lynn) Leialoha, Neki (Davelyn) Kauhi Jr., both of Hilo; 31 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren.

Jean Nakamoto

Jean Aiko Nakamoto, 81, of The Plaza at Moanalua, Oahu, formerly of Captain Cook, died Sept. 19, 2015, at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in Puna, she was a retired cafeteria manager at Holualoa Elementary School.

Friends may call at 3 p.m. Oct. 25 at Kona Hongwanji for a service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by sons, Stuart T. (Jo-Anne) Nakamoto of Honolulu, Craig (Laureen) Nakamoto of Iowa; daughters, Cynthia Nakamoto-Tomono of Kealakekua, Cathy (Delwayne) Arakaki of Las Vegas, Sheila Lee of Honolulu; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; stepmother, Kiku Sakoda; brohter, Douglas (Mae) Sakoda of Pahoha; sisters, Janet Ikeda of Pahoa, Doris (Jacob) Bender of Maryland, Elise Sakoda of Honolulu, Ethel Deguchi of Hilo.

Masayuki Kitamura

Masayuki Kitamura, 84, of Hilo died July 13, 2015, at the Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center in Hilo. Born April 23, 1931, in Hilo, he was retired from the state Department of Transportation Airports Division as a building construction and maintenance supervisor and was an Army veteran.

Friends may call at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 1:30 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Florence Kitamura of Hilo; daughter, Terri (Calvin) Kaneda of Wailuku, Maui; son, Kevin Kitamura of Hilo; brothers, Tadayuki (Kimiko) Kitamura, Masuo (Elayne) Kitamura, both of Honolulu; sister, Kinuyo Sumi of Hilo; two grandsons; numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Librado Cortel

Librado Soria Cortel, 72, of Naalehu died Oct. 10, 2015, at Ka’u Hospital. Born Dec. 24, 1942, in Pangasinan, Philippines, he worked for Royal Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Co. in Ka’u as a nut picker, member of the Naalehu Assembly of God.

Friends may call at 6 p.m. Oct. 23 at the family residence, 94-6283 Mauka St. in Naalehu for an all-night vigil. Friends may call again at 8 a.m. Oct. 24 at the Naalehu Assembly of God Church for a 9:30 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome. Burial will be held at Naalehu Community Cemetery

He is survived by daughters, Emily (Ben) Bolaoen of Naalehu, Jennifer Cortel, Marry-Ann (Marlon) Dantes, both of Philippines; sons, Ramilo (Lhea) Cortel, Bernard (Josephere) Cortel, Roger (Jaquelyn) Cortel and Librado (Maan) Cortel Jr., all of Philippines; 24 grandchildren; sisters, Josepina Querol, Lolita Cabanag, both of Philippines; brother, Ampiong Cortel of Philippines; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Kevin-Jay Ishikawa

Kevin-Jay “KJ” Tetsuo Ishikawa, 18, of Mountain View died Oct. 7, 2015, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was employed at Zen Woodworking and The Makery, was a 2015 graduate of Waiakea High School and member of the Waiakea High School Warrior Band and Air Riflery Team.

Friends may call at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 6 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by parents, Kevin and Kristen Ishikawa of Mountain View; sisters, Kylie Ishikawa, Kodie Ishikawa, both of Mountain View; maternal grandfather, Errol Kimura of Hilo; maternal grandmother, Patricia Sanoria of Kealakekua; paternal grandmother, Rubie Ishikawa of Pepeekeo; companion, Julie Okinaga of Honolulu; numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.

Lisa Torres

Lisa Koolani Torres, 53, of Ocean View died Oct. 2, 2015, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Sept. 28, 1962, in Honolulu, she was an inspectress and housekeeper at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel, member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, vice chair of ILWU local 142, Unit 1505 at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. Oct. 24 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kona Stake Center on Kalani Street in Kailua-Kona, for an 11 a.m. service. The family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome.

She is survived by husband, Jeffrey Torres of Ocean View; daughter, Amber (Kalani) Alvarez-Torres of Kailua-Kona; sons, Jeffrey (Tiffany) Torres and Jake (Kapri) Torres, both of Ocean View; sisters, Wanda (Jerry) Iokia of Nankuli, Oahu, Fern (Poncho) Cardenas of Kailua-Kona, Kela Pule of Milolii, and Lehua (Bob) Pule of Kailua-Kona; brothers, George Kamauu of Holualoa, William (Yolanda) Pule of Honolulu; 18 grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Philip Luce

Philip Michael “Mike” Luce, 68, died Oct. 5, 2015, at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born December 30, 1946, in Los Angeles County, Calif., he was a project engineer for the H-3 Windward Terminus on Oahu, helped build Kohala’s Akoni Pule Highway and later served as Grade Superintendent for Kuwaye Bros./Allied Aggregates, founded M. Luce Contracting, Inc. and MLC, Inc. He was also a chairman of the Hawaii County Planning Commission,volunteer at North Hawaii Community Hospital, supporter of the Kahilu Theatre, past president of the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce and Big Island Business Council, member of North Hawaii Rotary, the UH-Hilo and West Hawaii Chancellor’s Advisory Committee, Hawaii Leeward Planning Conference and the Kohala Ditch Foundation board, chairman for the Waimea Community Association’s Planning and Design Review Committee and member of the South Kohala Traffic Safety Committee.

He is survived by wife, Suzanne Hill;numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.

A celebration of life will be held Nov. 7. Time and location will be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Kahilu Theatre Foundation, Kahilu Theatre, Box 549, Kamuela, HI 96743.

Alfred Rodrigues

Alfred Rodrigues, 86, of Kurtistown died Oct. 2, 2015. Born in Olaa, he retired as an owner of Diamond R. Video.

He is survived by spouse, Laverne Rodrigues of Kurtistown; sons, Reno (LymanWaddill) Smith of Arizona; brothers, Joseph Rodrigues of Pahoa, Henry Rodrigues of Hawaii; sisters Flora Rosa of California, Annie Moore of Michigan, Adeline Rodrigues of Virginia; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
