Senior ID cards issued

The Coordinated Services for the Elderly Program of the Elderly Activities Division will issue Senior ID Cards for seniors 60 years old and older Monday through Friday at the Aging and Disability Resource Center.

Staff will also issue cards from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 3 at Walmart in Kailua-Kona, from 9 to 10 a.m. Nov. 9 at Pahala Hawaii Housing Center, from 11 a.m. to noon Nov. 9 at Naalehu Community Center and from 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 9 at Kohala Coordinated Services for the Elderly. The cards will also be issued from 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 10 at Waimea L. Yoshimatsu Senior Center, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 17 at Yano Hall, from 3 to 4 p.m Nov. 24 at Honokaa Hale Hauoli Senior Center and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 25 at West Hawaii Civic Center Building B.

Panel to discuss energy company merger

The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce invites the community to its focus luncheon “Energy Talk Story – NextEra/HEI Merger and Beyond” from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel &Bungalows.

Panelists include Eric Gleason of NextEra Energy, Marco Mangelsdorf of Hawaii Island Energy Cooperative and Jay Ignacio of Hawaii Electric Light Co. The discussion will be moderated by Sherry Bracken of Mahalo Multimedia.

Panelists will address alternatives for energy and the pending NextEra/Hawaii Electric Industries merger. They will also address how the merger will impact the cost of doing business in Hawaii.

Admission is $48 for chamber members and $58 for nonmembers. A two-hour buffet luncheon is included and parking is complimentary. Tables of eight can be reserved. Reservations are required by Nov. 2. No refunds will be issued afterwards. Register at kona-kohala.com or call 329-1758.

Workshop helps food producers market products to wholesale markets

Production and marketing experts will present a Wholesale Success workshop in Waimea. The workshop is designed for farmers and food producers seeking to produce and market their products to wholesale markets, and to learn more about food safety and the role of cooperatives in today’s agricultural economy.

The class is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3 and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 4 at Kahilu Town Hall, 67-1182 Lindsey Road. Day one includes a meet-and-greet mixer with distributors from 5 to 6 p.m. Day two includes an on-farm food safety walk in the afternoon.

A $50 registration fee includes lunch and coffee for both days, a farm tour, and pupu at the meet and greet.
