Tom Hasslinger has been named managing editor of West Hawaii Today.

Hasslinger’s primary responsibility will be working with the newspaper’s editorial department to produce compelling local content. He’ll also coordinate with the editors at Hawaii Tribune-Herald to help ensure that readers of both publications continue to receive the best islandwide news coverage.

Before coming to West Hawaii Today, Hasslinger worked for two years as managing editor for The Garden Island newspaper on Kauai.

Prior to Kauai, he worked for five years as the city hall reporter for the Coeur d’Alene Press newspaper in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

His first reporting job was at the weekly newspaper, the Douglas Budget, in Douglas, Wyoming.

Hasslinger grew up in Yakima, Wash. He graduated from San Diego State University in 2005 with a degree in European studies and a minor in English.

West Hawaii Today, Hawaii Tribune-Herald and The Garden Island are all operated by Oahu Publications Inc., which also publishes the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
