Mosaic artist and acrylic painter Kathleen Jaeger is the Kailua Village Artists featured member artist for November.

Jaeger will be showing mosaic work done on a variety of new supports, including shapes and her new “favorite” product, Wedi board, upon which she builds her wall pieces. The finished piece is much easier to handle and display than those created on traditional tile board, which can get heavy when the mosaic and grouting are finished. She uses primarily stained glass as her tesserae, but other materials occasionally work their way into the piece.

The artist will also display her vibrant, colorful and playful works in acrylic. This medium gives Jaeger the opportunity to work in a more spontaneous way than is possible with mosaic.

Jaeger holds a bachelor’s degree from Phillips University and a master’s degree in special education for emotionally disturbed children and youth from the University of Kansas. Additional coursework through the University of Missouri qualified her to become an art therapist, and she is registered with the American Art Therapy Association.

The Kailua Village Artists gallery is located in the Kona Marketplace, just north of Kakina Lane on Alii Drive. The gallery is open 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily.
