KTA earns Keeping It Green Hawaii Award
Recycle Hawaii and Earth-Friendly Schools Hawaii presented KTA Super Stores with a Keeping It Green Hawaii award as part of America Recycles Day.
The Keeping It Green Hawaii program highlights activities of organizations, businesses, schools and agencies that foster resource awareness and sustainability in Hawaii. By recognizing “green projects” taking place in the community, it is hoped that others will be motivated to take action toward caring for our environment and addressing local and global issues.
To be recognized for a Keeping It Green Hawaii award, nominees demonstrate commitment and comprehensive ongoing implementation in three or more areas such as: 3 R’s: reduce, reuse, recycle; zero waste; organic gardening, locally grown food; alternative energy sources; community service projects; protection and conservation of native species and energy and resource conservation.
Founded in 1916, KTA Super Stores is a family-owned supermarket business whose management, operations and customer service demonstrate a commitment to the environment through its green initiatives.
Disabilities panel meets Wednesday
The Mayor’s Committee on People with Disabilities meets at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the ADRC training room, 1055 Kinoole St., Hilo. The meeting is open to the public. The agenda will be posted on the county’s website.

Grant application available
Applications for the University of Hawaii at Hilo Scholars with Disabilities Achievement Grant are available. It recognizes and honors a student with a disability for the student’s superior scholastic performance and who plans to enroll or is enrolled at UH-Hilo for the spring 2016 semester. The student may be enrolled either full- or part-time, have a 3.0 GPA, and is a qualified student with a disability.
The application deadline is Dec. 18.

Beeby, Mitchell talk to business group
Stephanie Beeby of InFlow CEO Consulting and Alex Mitchell of What to Do Media will present a segment from their “Business Accelerator” program to local entrepreneurs on Wednesday during the Alii Networkers meeting of Business Network International. The meeting is held from noon to 1:30 p.m. in conference room 6 of King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. The meeting is free to all visitors. Parking at the hotel will be validated for $3.

Shakespeare fans meeting Thursday
Read Aloud Shakespeare meets once a month to read The Bard’s plays. The next meeting is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Keauhou. Members will complete “The Merchant of Venice” and then begin “Julius Caesar.” Those attending should bring a copy of the two plays
