11th annual Wobble Gobble Run/Walk

The public is invited to participate in the 11th annual Walua Road “Wobble Gobble” fun run and walk hosted by Big Island Running Company on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 26) at 8 a.m.

The event starts at the Walua Road trailhead on Lako Street just mauka of the Chevron Gas station. Participants may choose to run or walk a 1-mile, 3.5 mile or 6.4 mile course. This is a free event, but it is suggested that all participants donate two cans of food to be donated to the Hawaii Food Bank. Volunteer help and post race refreshment donations are also welcome. Beanie Heen Paddle Race

The Beanie Heen Paddle Race will be held on Nov. 28 at Surpark Hale in Kawaihae. OC-1, OC-2, SUP, 3-man, 4-man, relay races will be offered. Registration is at 7 a.m. There will also be food, prizes, a raffle and music. The event celebrates the life of Beanie Heen — a paddler, coach, father and friend.

Hawaii Cycling Club hosts The Kohala

On Sunday, Dec. 6, Hawaii Cycling Club will host The Kohala, either a 14.4 mile leisurely Sunday bicycle ride or a Hammerhead Time Trial, starting in Hawi and ending at the 3,564 foot elevation sign on Hwy 250 (Kohala Mountain Road).

Registration will be in or just east of Hawi from 7:30 to 7:50 a.m. The Time Trial will start at 8 p.m. Other cyclists, after registering, are asked to start either between 7:30 and 7:50 or two minutes after the last Time Trial competitor begins.

This event is free to annual members while non-members must purchase a $10 one-day membership during registration.

Hawaii Island Kiwanis Golf Tournament

Big Island Country Club will host the Hawaii Island Kiwanis Golf Tournament — a fundraiser to benefit the island’s keiki — on Dec. 6.

Check-in is slated for 7:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Format is a two-person scramble. The entry fee is $120 per person with a prize for a hole in one. Fee includes green fees, mulligans (two) and an awards luncheon.

Kohala youth sports registration

Boys basketball registration for ages 9-14 will be held on Dec. 7 and Dec. 9 at 4-5 p.m. at Hisaoka Gym. Practice will be in late December and early January, with games running through early March. Registration includes uniform.

T-Ball/pitchball for ages 5-8 registration will be held at the same time. Practice will be in late December and early January, with games running through early March at Kamehameha Park.

Waimea Athletics youth basketball and softball registration

Boys basketball: Waimea Athletics is currently accepting registrations for the upcoming 2016 boys basketball season. Registration costs $20 and runs through Dec. 10 for the following age groups: 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. Register online at waimeaathletics.com. Girls softball: Parks and Rec Waimea will be hosting a free instructional softball league for girls ages 9-10 and 11-12 beginning in December. On-site registration is available at 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 7 at Waimea Park Field A. A clinic will follow so players must bring shoes and a glove. 11th Annual Jingle Bell Beach Run

Hawaii Sport Events presents the 11th Annual Jingle Bell Beach Run on Dec. 20. The Christmas themed event will feature a 5K, 1-Mile and Santa’s Keiki Dash Runs starting at 7:30 a.m. in front of Coconut Grove Marketplace. Awards to be given out to top three in each category: Overall, 10-year age groups, and best Christmas costumes with lots of raffle prizes to follow. Entry fee for the 5K is $30 until Nov. 30 and $35 until Dec.18, while fees for the 1-Mile will remain $15 until Dec. 19. No registration for 5K and 1-mile on race day. Santa’s Keiki Dash is free to kids ages 6-and-under.

Tickets on a sale now for Fed Cup

The USTA today announced that tickets for the 2016 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group II First Round between the United States and Poland will go on sale to the general public on Dec. 11, at 10 a.m. An exclusive pre-sale for USTA members will take place on Dec. 9-10.

The best-of-five match series will be played at Holua Tennis Center at Holua Resort on Feb. 6-7. Hawaii will be playing host to Fed Cup for the first time, giving fans a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see this high level of tennis in the state.

From Dec. 11, through Jan. 7, only two-day ticket packages will be sold at prices ranging from $40 to $190 ($20 to $95 per day), representing the greatest initial ticket value. Beginning on Jan. 8, at 10 a.m. HST, two-day packages will no longer be available. Fans will then have access to single-day tickets for Saturday or Sunday with prices ranging from $25 to $100 per day. Pending availability, walk-up tickets will be available at the Holua Tennis Center on the match days only, ranging from $35 to $110 per day.

Play begins on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 11 a.m., with two singles matches. On Sunday, play starts at 10 a.m. with two reverse singles matches and the doubles match. A revised schedule for Sunday may take place if a team clinches in the third or fourth match.

Pro Bowl tickets on sale

The NFL’s All-Stars will be on display at the 2016 Pro Bowl and fans can join them.

Tickets to the 2016 Pro Bowl, slated for Jan. 31 are now on sale through ProBowl.com, the NFL announced on Monday. Fans may also purchase individual game tickets through Ticketmaster by calling 1-800-745-3000. Tickets start as low as $30.

Grant Miller, Bike Works Beach & Sport, talks about how recreational biking has changed in the last 25 years and the many way they introduce and become a source for visitors and locals to learn where to find wonderful recreational biking and outdoor activities on the Big Island.
