McKee Foundation offers scholarship

The Harry McKee Scholarship Foundation Board of Directors invites college bound high school seniors to apply for the 2016 McKee Foundation $1,000 scholarship.

To be eligible, students must be residents of Ka‘u District and plan to attend any accredited college, university, vocational school or training program. Students must enroll full time as first-time freshmen in fall 2016. There is no specific major required and selection is based on the comprehensive application.

Libraries closed for Thanksgiving

All public libraries will be closed on Thursday for Thanksgiving. Kealakekua Public Library will also be closed on Friday.

Dengue fever meeting planned in Waimea

North Hawaii residents are invited to a dengue fever informational briefing at 6 p.m., Monday in the Waimea School cafeteria. Speakers will include Darryl Oliveira, Hawaii County Civil Defense Chief and Incident Command for the Hawaii Island dengue outbreak and Department of Health representatives.

There is no charge and everyone is urged to attend.

Just Accounting opens new office

Just Accounting Inc. has opened a new office in Kealakekua to provide and expand its year-round tax preparation and tax resolution services to clients.

The new location will be at 81-958 Halekii St., Office 5B. It is located behind the HFS Credit Union in the courtyard.

The office has two enrolled agents who are licensed by the IRS.

Senior hui to share holiday memories

The December topic for the Senior Roundtable Hui will be “Holiday Memories Share.” Bring an item to share about a happy holiday memory from any holiday to the meeting from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Pink Mocha Cafe above Home Depot. The format will be interactive and all age groups are invited.

Bank employees raise $708,764 for charities

First Hawaiian Bank employees and retirees have donated a record $708,764 to benefit 35 charities as part of the bank’s annual Kokua Mai employee giving campaign. The amount is the largest donation in the campaign’s history and surpasses the campaign goal by $175,000.

Since Kokua Mai’s inception in 2007, bank employees and retirees have donated more than $5.4 million to support charities in Hawaii, Guam and the Commonwealth of the North Mariana Islands.

Employees also assisted Hawaii 3Rs with campus beautification projects at public schools on the Big Island.
