We need better outcome with dengue fever

When coqui frogs were found on the Big Island, a timely, effective response was needed to eradicate them. That didn’t happen. They are now here to stay.

When little fire ants were found on the Big Island, a timely, effective response was needed to eradicate them. That didn’t happen. They are now here to stay.

Trash trucking to help move dengue around island

No one has mentioned the transfer of Hilo’s rubbish to Kona as a vehicle for transferring dengue carrying mosquitoes. Surely we all know how landfills are like “condo cities” for mosquitoes. I think this is an ominous move to make right now.

Delay the transfer until this dengue outbreak is under control. And perhaps we should consider spraying our own dump with Bt formulated pesticides. Bt, or Bacillus Thuringiensus, is a bacteria harmless to humans and other mammals. It is a preferred method to kill pests on edibles.

Some people have focused opinions, short memories

Judy Taggerty has First Amendment rights, but her statements are so inaccurate and false, readers need to know how bad they are. I am reminded of the lies of the John Birch Society.

Also, a column earlier this week stated how great the economic prosperity was under Ronald Reagan. Perhaps they did not remember the crash of 1986 that lost 30 percent of our stock value. Short memories for those with only focused opinions.
