The victim of a fatal wreck Thanksgiving night in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has been identified.

Destanie Renon, 23, of Waikoloa was driving south on Highway 11 when the car left the roadway at 9:38 p.m. between mile marker 30 and the Pii Mauna Drive intersection.

The 1992 Honda sedan she was driving crashed into a cluster of large ohia trees.

Emergency personnel determined she did not survive the accident, and her body was taken to Hilo Medical Center.

It took investigators additional time to identify Renon, as the force of the impact threw objects for great distances into ferns and bushes, investigators said.

The cause of the accident is unknown, and an investigation by park rangers is underway.

Anyone with information regarding this accident is asked to call Park Dispatch at 985-6170.
