The normal sounds of construction were replaced with giggles and laughter at Daylight Mind Coffee Company Saturday for the Great Gingerbread House Competition to benefit Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii.

Teams paid an entry fee to receive a “basic” hand crafted gingerbread kit with candy decorations. Each team could then purchase add-ons for their creation. “Building inspectors” were on hand to make sure all of the houses met code.

Houses were judged with prizes going to the top designs. All Gingerbread Houses were then displayed at the Christmas Dining with the Chef event at the King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel Saturday night.

All funds raised are going to help the Aukai family build a habit home in Ocean View.
