The number of confirmed dengue cases on the Big Island went unchanged between Wednesday and Thursday, according to state health officials.

The tally of people infected remained at 145 on Thursday, with 128 of them island residents and 17 visitors. Of the cases, 32 have been children. The last onset of illness was Dec. 3.

Through Thursday, the Department of Health has excluded 514 reported cases based on test results and/or not meeting case criteria.

Hawaii County Civil Defense said Thursday that state crews continued to spray for mosquitoes in various areas of South Kona, Hilo and Hamakua.

A state Department of Health map issued Wednesday listed a good portion of South Kona, from north of Captain Cook to about Kipahoehoe National Area Reserve, as high risk areas. Moderate risk areas were identified from Kailua-Kona to Keauhou, Naalehu, Pahoa, Hawaiian Paradise Park, and Kapoho. Areas considered to be of some risk included Mountain View, Hilo, Laupahoehoe, Hawi, Waimea, Kawaihae, Kalaoa, north of Kona International Airport to about Mahewalu Point, Kona Paradise, Milolii, Ocean View, and Volcano.
