Calvary Community plans candlelight service

Everyone is invited to attend Calvary Community Church’s Christmas Eve candlelight service, called “The Light of Christmas,” at 7:30 p.m. Dec 24.

The service will include musicians and singers, hula, scripture readings, candle lighting and songs from the Kona Korean Mission Church Choir. Afterward, sweets and hot drinks will be served.

The nondenominational church is located at 76-4295 Leilani St. in Kailua-Kona.

Online auction benefits fishing group

The Hawaii Fishing and Boating Association’s Holiday Gift Auction on BiddingForGood.com has added several new items for holiday shoppers. The goal of this auction is to raise funds to support the 501(3)(c) nonprofit’s initiatives to improve local boating access and facilities, and assure a future for sport fishing.

Auction items include two tickets to the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel luau, Heavenly Hawaiian Farms gift basket, a hand-made hardwood fishing gaff by Capt. B.C. Crawford and more.

VFW Post lists activities

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12112, located behind Kona Locksmith off Kaiwi Street, has the following events planned:

Thursday Night Football begins at 3 p.m. with free light pupu provided.

The $5 Friday dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. and is pizza with salad and dessert.

VFW Auxiliary meets at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. It will be followed by the Marine Corps meeting at noon followed by their dinner.

Sunday, doors open for football at 10 a.m. with fans bringing pupu to share.

Monday night is football with the doors opening at 2 p.m.

Feed the Children event is Tuesday

A Feed the Children third annual Holiday Ohana Dinner will be served from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Daifukuji Soto Mission in Honalo. All homeless and hungry children and their families are invited to an interfaith celebration of food, music and art. A total of 250 free dinners will be served. Gift baskets with food and school tools will also be given to 100 families.

Donations of food, gifts and school tools for keiki can be dropped off at the Amy B.H. Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden, 82-6160 Mamalahoa Highway, Captain Cook. Nonperishable foods, personal hygiene items, educational toys, skill-building tools and contributions are needed.
