A wind advisory is in effect for interior areas of the Big Island, including South Point, Pahala, Hilo, Volcano, Honokaa, Waimea, Bradshaw Airfield, and Saddle Road above 5,000 feet in elevation, through 6 p.m. today, according to National Weather Service forecasters based in Honolulu.

East winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are forecast. Higher wind speeds can be expected near South Point and through the Saddle.

The winds can also make high-profile vehicles difficult to control; motorists are urged to drive with caution.
