Words and Wine planned

Authors G. Elizabeth Kretchmer, Karlyn Pipes and Diane Sherwood Holck will be featured during Kona Stories Book Shop’s Words and Wine event at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5 in Keauhou Shopping Center.

Seattle-based author Kretchmer is about to debut “Women on the Brink.” In 2014, Kretchmer released her first novel, “The Damnable Legacy.” Set in Alaska, the plot revolves around a mid-life mountaineer who regrets the decision she made 30 years ago to place her daughter for adoption.

“The Do-Over” by Pipes and Tito Morales is an inspiring story about recovery, hope and second chances. Coached by two-time Olympic gold medalist Mike Troy, she had the potential to be the best. Unable to keep up with the expectations, she replaced the liquid of the pool with that of a bottle. In the darkest period of her disease, at age 31 Karlyn found the courage, strength and resilience to turn her life.

Holck is a native of San Francisco, fathered in 1948 by the famous local character Don Sherwood. She now lives in Captain Cook. Her award-winning memoir, “In Poseidon’s Pocket” is the tale of her adventure in the 1970s when she and her husband lived on a commercial fishing boat. “Stillness” is Holck’s latest book which contains a collection of poems.
