Airport fire service workshop planned

The Hawaii Department of Transportation is partnering with the Department of Human Resources Development to conduct a “Women in Airport Fire Service” workshop from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Kona International Airport, Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Section. The workshop is free.

The workshop is part of a recruitment initiative designed to increase awareness of Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting careers for women. Topics will include how to prepare and submit an online application, ARFF career opportunities, and the firehouse culture from a woman’s perspective. Women are encouraged to learn more about a career with ARFF by registering for a session.

To register, email HDOT-EEO@hawaii.gov and include first and last name, the location, time and the subject: “Women in Airport Fire Service.” The deadline to register is by 4:30 p.m. Jan. 6. Walk-ins are welcome as long as seating is available.

CERT training begins in January

Free Community Emergency Response Team Training will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Jan. 16, 23 and 30 at West Hawaii Civic Center, 74-5044 Ane Keohokalole Highway, Kailua-Kona.
